The end of the year has been particularly exciting in the world of gaming big announcements in the PC market for new hardware that will allow the platform to hit new benchmarks and allow for more development options, and the next generation of consoles have also arrived with both the Xbox Series X and PS5 being met with great early reviews and excitement for the few exclusives that have arrived with them. But its mobile gaming that is really setting itself apart, records continue to be broke in the mobile gaming space largely in thanks to the increased player numbers that have turned to the mobile platform throughout the pandemic period.

Much of these records are largely coming from one specific gaming genre online gambling. The start of the year saw many online operators attract surges of new players as the cancellation of sporting events led to a lull for online betting and a growth for online casinos, big casino bonuses quickly became available to encourage players to gamble and the rising popularity of other online gaming categories followed suit. As the middle of the year approached, major sporting events had started to return which allowed for the online betting scene to grow once again, and record numbers of players were found.

As we head toward the Christmas period, there have been a number of other lockdown restrictions put in place too in order to slow the second wave of the pandemic, and with that an expected period of time where many of these online gaming operators will continue to grow once more although there will be a lull in sporting events throughout the winter, it may once again lead to many online platforms finding huge success.

There have been efforts made to slow the growth, however, as different countries around the world had placed a number of different restrictions on services from reducing the max amount of bets that can be made, to reducing the size of deposits that could be made in an effort to slow what has been deemed as an online gambling pandemic, but with extended periods of time where it may not be possible to rely on other forms of entertainment, many experts are suggesting that current trends of player growth will be expected to stay and that following the end of these lockdown periods many will likely be retained as concerns over whether or not brick and mortar locations will be safe in the future continue to remain. Other changes are certainly expected to come, one area that has been targeted is within the loot box gambling industry as the Dutch court recently placed a fine on game developer EA and as concerns over the growing numbers of younger players are starting to be noticed whether or not these changes will be put in place in a realistic time frame is something yet to be seen though, particularly as there has often been a lot of push back in this space before.
